Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do…
You, you may say
I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
So apparently as a Canadian studying for less than 91 days in Spain, I can’t get any special Visa, and thus can’t stay longer than that. 90 days. That means I’d even have to change my ticket there, as its 3 days over the 3 months.
That also means no Andalucia, no Paris, no Budapest. No seeing my grandmother and my country for a relaxed stay in the summer. The best I could do is crunch it in between my school there (which I will if I have to. I won’t leave Europe till I’ve seen her).
My last ray of hope is the fact that I’m half Hungarian. Half of the cells in my body belong there. I should’ve gotten my Hungarian Citizenship and Passport years ago…..that’s what I get for neglecting my roots, forgetting where I come from, as one our dialogue guests warned us not to do.
Does it take a little beaurocracy for me to want to stand on the tallest mountain and want to shout “I’M HUNGARIAN!!”?? It shouldn’t. Even if all I can do is 3 days in Hungary now, I’ll return. I’ll return and really explore it. Explore every nook and cranny, under a Hungarian passport.
I won’t forget my roots ever again.
And Nagymama, I’m going to see you no matter what. We’ll hug across the space of all the words I can’t say in Hungarian. And no language barriers, or political barriers will stop me.
